One of Richmond’s ramen hot spots is counting down their days until closure this weekend.

Asaka Ramen, which also houses TMix, a bubble tea and dessert shop, will officially close on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Kathy Tung, shop owner of Asaka Ramen, said the shop is closing because she is retiring.

“I’m not too sad that it’s closing because retirement is good and I look forward to it,” said Tung.

The well-received ramen shop opened in 2018 because Tung, at the time, didn’t see many ramen restaurants in the Bridgeport area.

“There weren’t many ramen places in Richmond [at the time] and the space opened up so I thought I would open up my own restaurant,” Tung said, adding that she had experience in the food industry when she opened TMix in Vancouver in 2015.

Earlier this year Asaka made waves for being one of the only places in Metro Vancouver to get mochi donuts. The donuts - which are popular with Instagrammers - combine mochi, a popular Japanese treat made from glutinous rice, with the Western fried cakes.

Asaka is offering 20% off side dishes and drinks up until their closing date. They are located at 2780 No. 3 Road in Richmond.
