The 'best burger' in Victoria is coming to Vancouver: Casual restaurant plans downtown opening

A life-long love of classic, no frills burgers, fries, and shakes fuel this popular concept

You could say the founders of Victoria's Burger Crush have been in love with classic burgers, fries, and shakes since childhood.

"Having been kids of the 80’s we grew up with no frills burger shops that were simple, unwaveringly consistent and delicious. The current pace of life, with all its endless decisions and choices, had us feeling nostalgic for those times," explain Temperance Phair and Scott Renton of their burger business in an online job listing.

After getting Burger Crush up and running as a food truck in Victoria in 2019, the duo rode their rep for making "the best burger in town" into a permanent location on Fort Street.

"We are now branching out to the mainland with our new location in downtown Vancouver," say Burger Crush's founders.

Specifically, Burger Crush - and its straightforward menu of burgers, fries, and shakes in traditional and vegan versions - is setting up at 755 Nelson St, in the space that had been home to Johnny Rockets, the U.S. diner-inspired chain that vacated western Canada, including its two Vancouver restaurants, earlier this year. Burger Crush confirmed the location with Vancouver Is Awesome this week.

Burger Crush's menu is built around the basics: Beef or plant-based cheeseburgers with tomato, lettuce, pickles and their house "Crush Sauce" on a vegan or brioche bun. For sides, they have classic fries or their kicked-up "Crushed" fries (topped with fried onions, cheese and Crush Sauce). They're also doing vegan tofu nuggets with dipping sauces, kids' meals, and shakes (regular or vegan).

Over in Victoria, Burger Crush offers dine-in and take-out, and also has beer and wine available.
