Tacos from Don Oso's. The Mexican restaurant opened its first location in late 2020 in Burnaby and now operates a restaurant in Vancouver at 1305 Commercial Drive.

A Burnaby Mexican restaurant has expanded its presence in Metro Vancouver and has recently opened its doors to a second location, this time on Commercial Drive.

Don Oso's Restaurant, which launched in the fall of 2020 on Hastings in Burnaby, has followed up its debut spot with another outpost already and is up and running with Mexican comfort eats, brunch, and happy hour specials in the former Storm Crow Tavern at 1305 Commercial Drive.

Storm Crow vacated the property in spring 2020 after about eight years in business there; the "nerd bar" just wrapped up operations in January at its second Vancouver venue, Storm Crow Alehouse, on Broadway.

In the meanwhile, Don Oso's is infusing The Drive with its Mexican fare, like tacos, chimichangas, fajitas, burritos, and sandwiches. The restaurant was among the first in Metro Vancouver to put quesabirria tacos on the menu, those saucy, meaty, trendy tacos served with a beef broth for dipping. Don Oso's also is offering its spin on the Mexico City-born mash-up dish birria ramen.

You can also chow down on appetizers like loaded nachos or fries, and you'll find plenty of specials during the restaurant's happy hour, offered daily from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. until closing. Score $2.75 classic tacos all day on Tuesdays, or check out a Mexican brunch, featuring dishes like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros.

Don Oso's on Commercial Drive is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Follow @donososrestaurant on Instagram for more.
