El Guapo to open in former Yaletown Fayuca space

A "Mexican collaboration" restaurant, El Guapo, will be opening soon in the Yaletown space vacated by Fayuca.

This spring, Fayuca - the Pacific Northwest/Mexican hybrid restaurant - revealed that after two years in Yaletown they were closing up shop and re-locating to Mount Pleasant.

While we're still waiting for Fayuca to re-emerge in new digs, we do now know that a new spot called El Guapo will take its place on Hamilton in Yaletown.

Fayuca shares some of its ownership team with some of the people behind Vancouver’s popular Nuba, as well as the diminutive but acclaimed Chancho tortilleria and super casual taco shop. They've been joined by new team members from Nude Vodka to put together El Guapo, which they are calling "a Mexican inspired collaboration."

Currently in the hiring stages, public details about El Guapo are scant, though we do know they are giving off a "party" vibe, embracing the donkey, and will be getting their fresh-made tortillas daily from sibling spot Chancho. Initially El Guapo was hoping to open its doors by the start of August, however no opening date has been made public yet.

We've reached out to El Guapo to see if they've got more info ready to share, and in the meantime, you can follow them on Instagram @elguapovancovuer for official updates (and more donkeys).

El Guapo will be located at 1009 Hamilton St. in Vancouver's Yaletown neighbourhood.
