It's called "Not Today, Seitan," but really, if not today, you might not get to try this devilishly good collab concoction.

Two of Vancouver's favourite casual spots, Beetbox and Tacofino, teamed up to create a plant-based burrito to mark World Vegan Day (which was Sunday) but have the item on the menu Nov. 1 through 7.

Available at Beetbox (1074 Davie St.) and Tacofino’s Gastown Burrito Bar (15 W Cordova St.), the burrito - with a name that's a fun play on its ingredients and a release landing on the heels of the spookiest day of the year - is an amped-up spin on the all-plant-based Beetbox's beloved Fried Chick-Un Sandwich.

The "Not Today, Seitan," is made of seitan (a meat sub made of wheat gluten) that's been breaded and fried, teamed up with pumpkin-seed macha (a nutty salsa-style sauce), cashew-lime crema, white-cucumber kimchi, lettuce, and lime chilaquiles, all bundled up snugly in a Tacofino flour tortilla.

Offering a great mix of mild and slightly sour heat, the freshness of lettuce and lime, the fried goodness of the seitan, and a little extra sumpthin' from the crunch of the tortilla chips nestled in there, this special menu item is a fun addition to Beetbox's line-up of lip-smacking good vegan treat-your-self fare (hello, Nashville Hot Fried Chick-Un Sandwich and massive onion rings!) and Tacofino's legendary Mexican-style tacos and burritos.

“We’ve been big fans of Beetbox since it opened and this collaboration really let us highlight the best of what Tacofino and Beetbox are known for and play to each other’s strengths,” says Jason Sussman, Chef and Co-Founder, Tacofino. “It also continues the commitment that all of our teams have in giving our fans plenty of conscious, plant-based choices on our menus.”
