It's the end of chapter for one branch of a popular Vancouver pizza restaurant, but the story is far from over.
The 701 Kingsway location of Straight Outta Brooklyn is set to close on June 30, ahead of a site redevelopment.
Straight Outta Brooklyn is one of several businesses in the strip mall on Kingsway at Fraser that will be departing as demolition looms; neighbour Ba Le is also saying goodbye to its 38-year-old Vietnamese sandwich shop and deli in the same plaza.
However, Straight Outta Brooklyn already has plans in motion for its next chapter in the area.
The Kingsway and Fraser location of Straight Outta Brooklyn is relocating to 918 Kingsway, shared owner/operator Patrick Kimball with V.I.A. in an email.
The new location is expected to open this September.
Block party, throwback deal to say goodbye to 701 Kingsway
On Sunday, June 22, Straight Outta Brooklyn will join its neighbours Ba Le and Sal y Limon for a block party to say see you later to the community they all love.
"There will be free snacks, face painting, photo booths, and a DJ," describes Kimball, offered "as a thank you to all our guests in this neighbourhood over the years."
As a delicious bonus, the pizza shop will have its Original Margherita and Classic Pepperoni pizzas for sale at their opening year (2016) price of $14.70. (There's a two-per-customer limit for this deal).
The new Kingsway outpost of Straight Outta Brooklyn is being set up in a new building in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage area. Kimball says while renovations are ongoing there the restaurant will still offer local deliveries via UberEats from their Granville Island location.
