Metro Vancouver is losing Another Beer Company (ABC).
The New Westminster brewery has announced that the company is shutting down in September.
"We’ve decided to close Another Beer Co. because it just seemed to be the right time to do it," reads a press release from ABC.
ABC opened at 30 Capilano Way in New Westminster's Sapperton neighbourhood in 2019, founded by business partners Alex Jopson and Clete Hanson.
The reason for the closure isn't explicitly stated, but in the release, ABC hints at the attention and time running a craft brewery takes.
"Please know that this wasn’t an easy decision to make. We needed to do this for our families," states ABC.
'We're not dead yet'
ABC makes a couple of references to the death of the brewery, including starting off saying "We’re dead. Dead tired," but that death won't happen right away.
"It feels like mourning, but we’re not dead yet, we’ve got a summer to celebrate and share some final projects with you including a farewell tour with our beer friends and some beers we want to revisit," reads the release, which was also posted on social media.
A final weekend celebration is planned at the brewery and tap house, with a party on Sept. 13 and a "break-up brunch" on Sept. 14.
"It’s not you. It’s us," ends the post.
Other Metro Vancouver breweries have expressed disappointment that a fellow brewer is shutting down.
"Great space and great beer. You’ll be missed!!" reads a comment from Vancouver's Slow Hand Beer Company.
"😢 💔," commented New Westminster's Steel and Oak.
"NO FUN!" wrote Ile Sauvage Brewing Co. from Victoria.
