UPDATE (March 13, 2020):

In response to COVID-19, all events organized by the City of Surrey that host more than 250 people, including Party for the Planet, will be cancelled until further notice.

For fifty years, Earth Day has served as an important annual event that aims to demonstrate support for environmental protection around the world. This year’s Earth Day celebration, however, is more significant than ever; not only will 2020 celebrate the 50th anniversary of the global event, but it will also mark the beginning of a divisive decade in which our actions will dictate the state of the world for years to come.

With that in mind, the City of Surrey has decided to throw one of their largest Earth Day celebrations ever on April 18, all in an effort to raise awareness and support for environmental protection and sustainability in Metro Vancouver and beyond.

Now in its 10th year, Party for the Planet will feature a tree and plant sale, environmental workshops, live music, and offer a variety of educational activities for all ages to learn about environmental initiatives. Party for the Planet will also offer 1,000 complimentary succulents to attendees while incorporating interactive activities to educate on the impacts of climate change.

The event, which runs from 10 am - 6 pm, will also feature a full day of live entertainment on the TD Main Stage, Indigenous performers and an acoustic concert series. Additionally, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities in the Live Green World tent located on Civic Plaza featuring a sustainable and Indigenous marketplace, a speaker series, a Surrey Parks display, the Environmental Extravaganza and over 30 local eco-friendly vendors and activations.

On University Drive, attendees will find environmental workshops and an awesome collection plant-based food trucks, including Chickpea Food truck, Rolling Cashew, Eat the Dishes and Gypsy Trunk. Additional food trucks include Express - Rotato, Sajetarian, Tin Lizzy Donuts and Triple O’s. To get you even more excited, we’ve partnered with Party for the Planet to award one lucky reader $50 in Food Truck vouchers, which can be used onsite at the event. You can enter via our Instagram post below, the winner will be announced on April 1, 2020.

While the significance of the event is serious, there will be plenty of fun and games at Party for the Planet, including a rock-climbing wall, road hockey, and sports activations from Sport Surrey. Party for the Planet, presented by TD, returns to Surrey Civic Plaza on April 18, from 10 am to 6 pm. Remember to arrive early to receive your complimentary plant!
