Among some tribal societies, a person’s True Name must not be altered or profaned. And in many of the world’s mythologies, to name is to create (“In the beginning was the Word”). So by inference, to rename is to damage or destroy.

In line at Subway on Robson on August 13, I was surprised to find myself behind a gentleman who actually said please and thank you when he was dealing with the person making his sandwich. I made the point of thanking him for being so polite.
