With an aim to make art fun and accessible, Vancouver's Sticky Show, featuring hundreds of works made using sticky notes, returns at the end of May.
Now in its fourth edition, the Sticky Show offers a free exhibit of artwork on those familiar, ubiquitous 3x3 sticky notes, all done by local and international artists.
The Sticky Show debuted in 2019, and returned in 2023 after a multi-year pandemic pause.
Organized by One More Life Gallery, this year's event takes place on May 30 and 31 at Gallery 881, a lens-based art hub that has donated their space for the occasion.
Attendees can expect to see "an incredible variety of themes and artistic styles—from whimsical and humorous designs to deeply emotional and thought-provoking pieces," explains the gallery in an event announcement.
One More Life Gallery founder Flavia curated the show. Ahead of its inaugural event, Flavia shared in an interview that she had been a longtime participant in a sticky notes art show held annually in Los Angeles; the Vancouver edition was launched with the blessing of event founders Mark Todd and Eric Nakamura of Giant Robot.
An opening reception will take place on May 30 from 7 to 11 p.m., while on May 31 from noon to 4 p.m. families are encouraged to come by to take part in a free relief printing workshop and bring home their own mini artwork to enjoy.
Not only does the small scale of the pieces mean the show can feature a staggering volume of artists' works but it also allows the pieces to be priced at just $25 each, a rare low cost to own an original work.
"These tiny pieces of art bring people together and make collecting art approachable and affordable," shared Flavia. "Every year, I’m excited to see the talent and energy from artists around the world poured onto these little sticky notes.”
